Students new to Fine Arts with previous experience will be scheduled into a placement class by appointment with the teacher. Contact Jeannie Fleming-Gifford, Director of Education at (440) 951-7500 x118 to schedule an appointment. Students are evaluated annually to continue proper placement in a challenging class setting.

As a young dancer, a student is offered creative movement and ballet/tap combination classes which provide a basic foundation of dance terminology and movements. Through using familiar locomotor and non-locomotor steps, students develop increased coordination and special awareness.

Dance Experience I and II provide the dance student with three different styles: ballet, tap, and an introduction to jazz. After studying at these levels, it is typical for a student to continue their dance education in either classical ballet or tap and jazz. Serious dancers should consider pursuing study in all three styles, as the demands of the profession require versatility. For tap, jazz, and modern students, parallel study in ballet is strongly recommended as dancers refine placement/alignment while performing demanding stylized choreography.

Students studying in the upper levels will develop technical proficiency, style and performance qualities as they are challenged by advanced vocabulary and complex combinations.

All dance classes are progressive and continue for the full school year (September through June). At the end of each year (June), most dance classes participate in the annual dance recital. The youngest dance classes participate in an informal Sharing Day. Please see listing of classes which notes students who participate in the Sharing Day. Fall Session students need to re-register for Spring 2011 Session.

The Ballet Program introduces and develops the skills and understanding of ballet technique and cultivates artistic expression and enjoyment of movement. A clearly defined structure allows learning to take place in the context of safe dance practice. The progressive training ensures that steps and skills learned at lower levels prepare for a more complex movement as students progress.

Beginning students with no previous study may enroll in the ballet program starting in the combination classes marked "No previous training required."

Students new to Fine Arts with previous training are scheduled into a placement class by appointment with the teacher.

Contact Jeannie Fleming-Gifford, Director of Education at (440) 951-7500 x118 to schedule an appointment. All students are progressed by age, ability and the desired amount of time commitment or class frequency.

Pilates is a conditioning program based on the work of Joseph H. Pilates. This method improves muscle control, flexibility, coordination, strength and tone. Participants become more aware of their bodies, improve alignment and breathing and increase efficiency of movement. In a sequence of carefully performed movements, each exercise is designed to stretch and strengthen the muscles involved, opening the joints and releasing tension.

Dress requirements:

  • Women: Dancewear, leggings, bike pants, t-shirt. NO SHOES
  • Men: Bike pants or track pants and fitted shirt. NO SHOES

Bring an exercise mat.

Pilates & Props (adult & teen) Some previous experience necessary.
Students should bring their own ring/magic circle to the first class. The instructor provides additional optional equipment (mini balls or tubing).
